The library has quickly become one of my favorite spots to go lately, having access to thousands of books for free is amazing.
I went yesterday with my husband, even though I already had a big stack of books to read and figured I wouldn’t get anything when I was there. Boy was I wrong.
One of the books I happened across was “Made to Crave’ by Lysa Terkeurst. I knew about the book from listening to K-Love and thought it would be a good read. I picked it up without paying attention to the details of what its about because we were getting ready to leave.
I had forgotten that the book is about desiring God, instead of food and the other things we fill our lives with. While reading chapter one, I was struck by this scripture:
“Everything is permissible -but not everything is beneficial.” 1 Corinthians 10:23
I think God is trying to tell me something, trying to help guide me back to focusing on Him. There is a stark difference between spending my free time this summer sitting on the couch watching Netflix while eating all the junk food I can get my hands on and spending my time focused on God, Reading, and honing my writing skills while trying my best to watch what I’m eating. I know I need to focus on God and correct eating habits, which proves difficult in the presence of birthday cake left over from my husbands birthday celebration.
I hope that at the end of the summer I can say that I’ve grown as a person and grown as a writer, instead of wasting the summer doing things that aren’t beneficial.
